Puppy Essentials is a customized instruction program tailored specifically to the needs of a dog and handler(s). Intended for puppies between the ages of eight weeks to nine months, the focus is puppy obedience and socialization. Socializing puppies as early as possible helps with many behaviors – aggression and rude behaviors in particular. This critical development stage is foundational in establishing our relationship with our pups. You, as an owner, will learn how to care for and train your puppy so that your puppy will grow to be a joy to you and your family. You will be instructed on how to reliably train your dog on leash and will learn how to ask your pup to comply with your requests and behave according to your expectations. Your praise is the primary motivator.
Curriculum for Puppy Essentials includes:
- Name recognition
- Proper socialization
- Potty training
- Walking on leash
- Kennel acclimation
- Establishment of boundaries
- Go to spot
- Introduction to the five basic commands:
- Heel positioning
- Sit on command
- Down on command
- Come on command
All this is learned safely while having fun. Life is not just about commands; it is about the relationship we have with our dog. That is our approach to teaching—always cultivating and building on trust. This program covers the basics of responsible dog ownership. Emphasis is placed on learning appropriate socialization behaviors through normal interaction and handling exercises. Specific goals for your companion will determine the handling approach which varies by breed, temperament and environment. You will learn how to play with your puppy safely. Puppy behaviors such as mouthing, biting the leash, and chewing inappropriate items will be addressed.
Puppy training is important for your puppies’ life development. You are nurturing and guiding them through the beginning stages of their life. Let us help you raise a Happy, Healthy, Confident and Social puppy!
Equipment Needed: As part of the training program, we will equip your dog with a standard 6 ft leash and chain training collar.
Equipment Needed: An electronic training collar may also be recommended as part of your training program.
Training your puppy is an on-going process. We will lay the foundation for a well-balanced, properly socialized dog. It is important to maintain consistent handling techniques throughout your puppy’s development stage. We are not monogramming computers or training robots. Our dogs are living, breathing, thinking creatures. We must allow them room to make mistakes, learn and grow.
